L-280s (SL=lead/bridge; SM=middle; SN=neck/rhythm):
The L-280Ss are based on the classic Fender Strat sound of the late pre-CBS period (early-mid 1960s). They are spot on, but without the hum. The L-280S set now includes as standard the L-280SL+ bridge pup, which somewhat addresses the classic Strat problem of not having enough lead output.
Output (Henries): L-280SL+ = 3.6; L-280SM/L-280SN = 2.4
L-290s (SL=lead/bridge; SM=middle; SN=neck/rhythm):
The L-290Ss are a little hotter than L-280Ss with slightly reduced brights and enhanced mids. Think of them as a 70/30 Fender/P-90 hybrid.
