Tach zusamm! bei der Session habe ich mit irgendjemand (sorry, ich weiß nicht mehr, wer's war) über das ablesen vom Griffbrett von Mitmusikern geredet. Seit ich Stick spiele haben meine Mitmusiker damit immer ein kleines Problem, weil niemand sehen kann, was für Töne oder Akkorde ich gerade spiele :-) -Na gut, ich gebe zu, manchmal weiß ich' s ja selber nicht. Zu dem Thema fand ich heute eine lustige Geschichte in Trey Gunn's Road Diary. Trey Gunn ist der Ex-Stick-jetzt-Touch-Guitar-Spieler bei King Crimson, und probt momentan mit Jerry Marotta (Schlagzeuger, früher bei Peter Gabriel) und Eric Johnson für dessen Tour. Und da schreibt er:
"I had some amusing moments today when we were doing some improvising. Eric
uses these amazing chords voices and I was trying to suss out what some of
them were. My hands were moving to where I thought the right notes would
be, but I kept playing WAY out of the key. Then suddenly I realized that he
was in standard guitar tuning. Doh! I'm so used to reading Fripp's hands on
the fretboard (he is tuned in fifths, instead of traditional guitar
tuning,) that I was completely lost. You'd think that having just cut a
record for three months with Adrian Belew would've gotten me in shape for
reading a standard guitarist hands. But, no! Adrian uses such completely
whack-ed out chord voicings that I have long ago given up trying look at
his hand for orientation. Plus, on the new King Crimson record he has
dropped one of his middle strings to a lower pitch, so the standard chords
(as if you would hear that on a KC record!) don't look familiar anyway.
