Hallo Cristoph,
stimmt genau! Ich war erst etwas verwirrt und habe nochmal im Netz gesucht, aber ist ja auch logisch. Ich kopiere mal die Textauszüge ein, falls jemand nachlesen möchte.
Gruß, Jim

Is it ok to pull power tubes? Pulling power tubes will help to decrease the volume a bit, but it's not a dramatic effect. pulling tubes generally results in a rounder, smoother tone with slightly less punch and headroom. you can also expect the amp to compress more quickly. if you're pulling tubes, make sure that the amp is class AB--you can't pull tubes in a class A design, so bear this in mind. also, make sure that you pull either the two outside or the two inside pairs--DO NOT pull the two left or two right.
One more thing...bear in mind that your impedance outputs on your amp DOUBLE as a result of pulling a pair of power tubes. therefore, your 4-ohm taps become 8-ohm taps, and your 8-ohm taps become 16-ohm taps. for more information about pulling tubes, check out what mesa's mitch faber has to say at: http://www.mesaboogie.com/US/Perspectives/mitch.html.

IMPEDANCE -- ALWAYS follow the rated impedance of your amp. If you have a selector switch, make sure it is in the proper position for the speaker load you are using. The only exception to this is if you have an amp that uses 4 power tubes such as a Twin or a Marshall, and you want to reduce the power by pulling 2 of the tubes, ALWAYS double the speaker load compared to what the setting says: for example, if you pull 2 tubes on your Marshall (either the inside pair or the outside pair, never 2 from one side or the other), and you have a 16ohm cabinet, you must set the amp for 8ohms. NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE RUN THE AMP WITHOUT A SPEAKER ATTACHED. YOU WILLDAMAGE YOUR AMP!
