"Colitas" means "little tails" in Spanish, but in this song they're referring to 'colas,' the tip of a marijuana branch, where it is more potent and with more sap (said to be the best part of the leaves).

The word "colitas" was translated for the Eagles by their Mexican-American road manager as "little buds," which relates to marijuana, because you smoke the "bud" of the marijuana plant.

So, when they refer to the "warm smell," it's the smell of marijuana smoke.
